Safer Internet Day 2019

Safer Internet Day 2019 will be celebrated in the UK on Tuesday 5th February, focusing on the theme of:

"Together for a better internet"

The aim of Safer Internet Day is to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.

This year in the UK, Safer Internet Day will focus on how consent works in an online context and will ask young people to explore how they ask, give, and receive consent online. This could be in their friendships or relationships, how they take and share images and videos or how they manage their privacy and data.

The campaign encourages young people to explore how the internet works, who owns the information that is shared on it, and how they can actively take ownership of digital spaces. We want SID 2019 to empower young people to take control of their online lives and to feel that they can harness and use the positive power of the internet for good.

SID TV 2019: Your Choice or Mine - film for parents and carers

Why not try this at home with your child(ren) and answer the questions below? This film is intended to be used alongside the corresponding Education Pack for parents and carers from the main Safer Internet Day 2019 landing page www.saferinternetday.org.uk Start conversations at home with some more "Your Choice or Mine" questions:

Making good use of digital technology – Year 6

The workbook is intended for primary students and has the aim of developing digital citizenship skills in young children. The workbook is a fun, interactive and thought provoking tool being used in the Personal Social and Career Development Subject (PSCD). Comparison between online and offline citizenship is emphasized within the workbook so that students become aware that the virtual community to which they belong also has its rules and regulations.

With the aid of this workbook various areas related to digital citizenship can be explored since children, more often than not embrace technology without examining the consequences of what they post, search or download.

The workbook is a proactive way on how to deal with the engagement of students in the digital world. The workbook is an excellent tool that helps students acquire the necessary skills that include, amongst others, media literacy, critical thinking and communication skills.
