Mount Pleasant Primary School

'Every child matters, every moment counts'

RSE Day

As a part of your child’s education at Mount Pleasant Primary school, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, strategies and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full
potential.

I am writing to let you know that, over the next few weeks, your child’s class will be taking part in lessons which will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE)aspect of this programme. RSE lessons in 2025 will include teaching about;

FS1/2 - Healthy relationships, family and friendships.

Year 1 – Who are my special people and the Human lifecycle.

Year 2 – The similarities between myself and others. What are the correct names for body parts.

Year 3 – Why friendship is important, how to maintain a good friendship and how to be a good friend.

Year 4/5 - How are our bodies different and what changes happen as we grow up. The importance of personal hygiene. How the changes affect our emotions and feelings.

Year 5 – Puberty and menstruation.

Year 6 – Human reproduction.

During these lessons pupils will also have opportunities to ask questions.
PSHE education is taught throughout the school in every year group and is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and governing body. Please visit the school’s website for more details and take a look at the Knowledge organisers which highlight what will be taught during these lessons.

All PSHE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values.

On Thursday 26th June, the school will be taking part in RSE Day a national day to celebrate relationships; this year’s theme is Communication. Please see the website for ways to support your child and activities that families can join in with.

Yours sincerely,
Angela Parker-Knapper (PSHE Subject lead)
